Mortgages can be obtained in Thailand quite easily if you are a Thai national however the goalposts are forever being moved for foreigners applying for loans. The paperwork is also laborious (especially for buyers without a Thai spouse). As of writing (June 2009) we are aware of very few banks offering loans to foreigners and they have heavy qualifying conditions (must have work permit, must be a joint mortgage and one person must be Thai etc).
